Consecrate Yourselves
Joshua 3:5, 1 Thessalonians 5:21-24
Sermon Summary

Get ready, get set…GO! We are all familiar with that as the beginning announcement of a race. Get ready means to get yourself loosened up and ready to run (focus), get set means to get in your blocks or your starting position. Then, of course, you are off to the races! So far in the book of Joshua the people have been in the get ready phase of their journey. Now, with this command, Joshua is saying to them “get set!” Now is the time to get into the starting position.

The starting position was a position of consecration. Consecration means to set apart, specifically to be set apart for God’s use and to position yourself in total surrender and focus on Him. This would have been a familiar command to the people as they had been given some very specific practices and acts of consecration. There were ritual cleansings, washings, fasting, and other traditions they were to keep as acts of concentration. This was all in an effort to position themselves to be a part of the work God was about to do.

Sermon Discussion
We are going to use the word PRAY as a guide to discussing what we heard in the sermon today.

            PRAISE
  • What did you learn about God today?
  • Did you hear anything encouraging?
  • Take a minute to praise God for who He is and how He encourages you.

            REPENT
  • Did you feel convicted about any sin?
  • Did God use the sermon to reveal something in your life that needs to change?
  • Confess those things together and pray for God to change us.

            ASK
  • What is one thing you feel like you need to ask God for based on what you heard in the sermon?
  • Do you need guidance or strength?
  • Do you need to see more clearly?
  • Take time to ask God for that thing.

            YES!
  • What will you say yes to?
  • How will you live out the things you have learned?

Bible Reading – Joshua 3
Discuss the following questions after you read the Bible story together.
  • What did you like the most about the story?  Any surprises?
  • What questions do you have?  What do you not understand?
  • Are there any commands in this story we should follow?
  • Are there any promises in this story we should remember?
  • How will this story help you live for Jesus?

Memory Verse – Memorize this as a family or read it together every day this week.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 - Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass
